Finally on 21st May 2019, on the last day of our holiday in Norfolk, the sun came out! Lessingham church was just across the fields from our cottage and we could see it from the bathroom window. It is a pretty and simple church, and it was open.

We visited Cromer on 21st May 2019. When we first arrived the top of the church tower was covered by a swirling sea fret but it cleared quickly and the sun came out. The church is at the top of the cliff overlooking the sea, and is large and handsome. It was open.

We visited Norwich Cathedral on 20th May 2019. It’s a big sprawling building with lots of bits added on over the years. The cloisters are lovely and the vaulting in the ceiling is gorgeous. It’s not possible to take a photo of everything inside at once as it’s so big, so there are a couple of panoramas here, they are distorted but give an idea of the place.

We visited this church on 20th May 2019, it’s right in the centre of Norwich. There are lots of churches all more or less next to each other, I have never seen so many! Because this was in the old town the streets are narrow and you cannot get far enough back to take a proper exterior shot. This church was open and there were 2 friendly gents to give us a guided tour, thanks 🙂

We visited this church on 19th May 2019 – it was Sunday morning and there was a service going on so we didn’t go inside.

We visited this church on 18th May 2019, and what a tall tower it has got! We were a bit miffed to find that they normally did open tower visits on Saturdays (when we were there) but that the tower was closed because of poor weather conditions – it was very dull and overcast with low visibility and one wouldn’t be able to see anything from the top! However, the church was open so we had a look round. There are allotments at the back of the churchyard, looking nice.

We visited this thatched church with round tower on 18th May 2019. From the churchyard you could see across the fields to the tall tower of Winterton-on-Sea. The church was open and it was very well cared for inside.

We visited this church on 18th May 2019. The church was open. It was down a little lane beside a farm, and near to Waxham Barn, a huge medieval thatched barn.
The church was very simple inside, with a lovely turquoise blue painted wooden ceiling.

We visited this church on 18th May 2019 – it was a rather murky day but the church was open. There is a lifeboat station at Sea Palling and the church was full of reminders of this.

We visited this church for a second time on 18th May 2019. The work on the church was finished and it was open. The weather wasn’t as nice as our first visit though 😦 Inside was a beautifully carved rood screen, with remnants of paintings on the lower panels.
